Damian Vizár

I am a PhD student in the LASEC laboratory at EPFL, under the supervision of Prof. Serge Vaudenay.

Before coming to EPFL, I did my Bachelor and Master studies at Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava in Applied Informatics with a specialization in information security.
During my Master, I did an exchange at the Ruhr Universität Bochum in Germany to take courses offered in their IT Security study program.

Main interests

In general, I'm interested in any topic related to cryptography and security. My main research topics so far have been authenticated encryption and provable security; most of my results have been in fact an intersection between the two.

Besides the purely theoretical work, I also like to do a little programming. I am a co-author of the reference and optimized implementations of the CAESAR candidate OMD. In 2014, I was responsible for preparation of a demo that demonstrated relay attacks on contactless payment system based on NFC. I had a lot of fun while playing with the NFC communication protocols and credit card standards and practical discovery of their (in)security

Honours

Fellowship from the doctoral school in computer and communication science (2013)

Graduated with honours (2013) at Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Slovak University of Technology, Slovakia.

Dean’s award (2011) awarded with Bachelor Degree for excellent results.

Best student of 2010 awarded at Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Slovak University of Technology, Slovakia.

Teaching

I have supervised 4 students for research-oriented and implementation-oriented semester projects.

I was a Teaching Assistant for various classes. In particular:
